Several of my works developed from ideas that occurred to me after finishing two pictures that were inspired by a photograph of a fresco in Crete.

I realised that I had been interested in this kind of landscape for a long time and possessed many sketches that I had made from travelling throughout Britain, which are stored in an attic at home. I want to use these memories to do some paintings on themes that can be observed in these paintings: single buildings and trees.

I particularly liked coming across small solitary dwelling houses and farms whose presence always seemed to be marked by a tree. The surrounding area in many instances was empty.
